Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge is sponsoring the free Summer Science Day Camp from June 20 through June 23.
The camps will be conducted at the refuge’s new administrative offices at 38 Mattamuskeet Road, Swan Quarter.
The purpose of this camp is to introduce students to the importance and diversity of healthy ecosystems and the natural world in which they live. Activities, many of them hands-on experiences, include nature hikes, photography, keeping journals, environmental biology, conservation and recycling. Cultural awareness, exposure to traditional land/resource uses, stories and games are part of the camp’s offerings.
Students, ages 7 through 11, who are interested in learning more about the natural world and wildlands are encouraged to submit an application to register for the camp. Spaces are limited, so children will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
For more information about the camp, contact Sherryreed Moore by email at sherryreed_moore@fws.gov or by calling 252-796-3004, ext. 228.
