Marion Respass Tate

Ms. Marion R. Tate, age 91, a resident of Tate Road, Belhaven, N.C., died Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at her home.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2011 at the Tate family cemetery officiated by Randal Peterson Jr. The family will receive friends following the service on Monday at the graveside and other times at her home. She will lie in state at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations today, June 5, 2011, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Ms. Tate was born on July 20, 1919 in Norfolk, Va., the daughter of the late John Franklin and Emma Etta Ramsey Respass. She had been a resident of the Winsteadville Community since 1979 and had been a prior resident of Texas and New York. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Raleigh Tate. Ms. Tate was a member of Winsteadville United Methodist Church where she played the piano and taught Sunday school for 20 years.

Survivors include two grandsons, Michael R. Garrett of Belhaven, N.C., and Arthur Neal Garrett of Atlanta, Ga.; great-grandson Michael Dillion Garrett of Greenville, N.C.; and three sisters, Marietta Respass Holden of Freeport, Texas, Ruth Respass Hill of Temple, Texas and Dorothy Respass Huhn of Clayton, N.C.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her only daughter, Bonita Gerhart Garrett; eight sisters, infant Ethel Respass, Lila Respass Lever, Emma Respass Germinder, Naomi Respass Volk, Nancy Respass Tate, Lois Respass Tate, Barbara Respass Roeper and Esther Respass Lowry; and three brothers, John Franklin Respass, Jesse James Respass and Rev. Paul Carroll Respass.
