Time to tighten our belts

To the Editor:
Don’t say No! Say Hell No!
I’m not sure who I was supposed to have gotten my orders from, to oppose any tax increase in Beaufort County. My decision comes from long experience with Republican principles and watching what happens when taxes are increased in a recession. I had assumed that Mr. Britt had similar experiences, but I was obviously wrong. I believe that any Republican who would vote to raise our taxes at this time does not merit the label of “Republican,” and I will join with others of a like mind in doing my best to use that time tested method of removing elected officials who ignore the principles of the Republican Party – the ballot box.
Britt writes as president of the Beaufort County Republican Club. This club is not a part of the Republican Party of Beaufort County or any other geographic entity. I wonder if he polled the members of that club before he spoke for them. I doubt that he would get a majority. Britt is speaking for himself, and is acting like a toady for those elected officials who would cloak themselves as Republicans, but whose liberal values make a balanced budget, without tax increases, impossible. Year after year we see profligate spending with no concern for the taxpayers who must pay the bill. It’s time to tighten our belts and live within our means.
