Phillips warms up Summer Festival

As the Summer Festival comes and goes, one thing is for sure ą it just can’t come and go without some good music.
The festival will be held at the Washington waterfront, beginning Friday night, and will go until Sunday afternoon.
Chuck Phillips Jr., a real estate broker with The Rich Company, will be performing for his first time as a solo act.
“This isn’t the first time I’ll be performing but it will be the first time I’ll be performing solo,” he said. “I’ve sung at the Summer Festival before with Craig Woolard, but this will be my first time alone.”
As Woolard is a close family friend, Phillips will occasionally get onstage with him and sing a song or two.
“I don’t know if we’ll sing together this time or not,” he said. “It’s nothing we ever plan on doing.”
Phillips added Woolard usually will see him in the crowd and call him up on stage to sing a set together.
Phillips sings and plays the guitar, as well as plays the harmonica in his solo act. However, since he’s been playing music and performing for several years he’s not nervous and hopes to get a good time going for the crowd.
“I’ve been playing for close to 16 years,” he said. “But actually performing in public for about 10 years.”
David Norwood, owner of Carolina Wind Marina, plays flute and guitar and may perform with Phillips for a set or two Friday night.
“He actually performs with me a lot,” he said. “Anytime he’s in town and I have a gig, he performs with me. So it’s kind of a duo.”
Phillips will be playing in the Beer Garden with the white tents.
“Everything we play is stuff the crowd can sing along to,” he said. “It’s all classic rock and beach music. Stuff like Jimmy Buffett. It’s all party music.”
Phillips will perform from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday as The Craig Woolard Band sets up on the main stage. They will perform from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
