Mr. Robert Lee Terry, 64, a resident of U.S. Highway 264, Washington, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at his home. The family received friends Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will receive friends other times at the home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2011, in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, officiated by Dennis Barber. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers: Jay Gurganus Jr., Jay Gurganus III, Christopher Woolard, Jake Allander, Walter S. Cahoon Jr. and Frank Williams Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be, Bill Shavender and Marlin Waters. Military honors will be rendered.
Mr. Terry was born on Jan. 12, 1947, in Martin County, son of the late Thurman David and Elizabeth Meeks Terry. Robert served his country in the United States Army for 10 years. After his enlistment, he relocated to Washington and was a self-employed plumber and the owner of Terry’s Plumbing. Mr. Terry was married to the former Liddie Gurganus, who survives. Robert was a member and active supporter of the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of Graceway Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Along with his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Wanda Cahoon Everett and Michelle Terry Soper, both of Washington, N.C.; five grandchildren, Walter S. Cahoon III, Susan Cahoon, Sarah Cahoon, Jason Soper and Terri Soper, all of Washington, N.C.; brother, David Terry of Robersonville, N.C.; two sisters, Millie Drake of Greenville, N.C., and Carolyn-Jeanette Thompson of Seven Springs, N.C. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lonnie Terry.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
