2nd Saturdays returns to Bath

Carolina Clay is the theme for the next 2nd Saturdays installment in Bath set for July 9. The program runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Historic Bath Site.

Program artists include a number of potters, a jewelry-maker and basket-maker. One potter, Carolyn Sleeper, will have a hands-on area set up for visitors who want to get their hands in clay but have never done so.

A storytime for children will be held inside the site’s visitors center at 11 a.m. The story will be taken from the book “Dave the Potter: Artist, Poet, Slave.” It tells the tale of a talented enslaved man who became well known for his unique creations.

“2nd Saturdays helps families have some good, old-fashioned fun whether they are visiting a site close to home or across the state,” said Leigh Swain, site manager. “We hope that folks will pack a picnic to enjoy at Bonner’s Point following the program which highlights our state’s culture and heritage.”
