A new congressional district map released Friday would place Beaufort County whole and intact in the 3rd Congressional District represented by U.S. Rep. Walter B. Jones, R-N.C., of Farmville.

Currently, the county is divided between the districts represented by Jones and U.S. Rep. G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C., of Wilson.

The Legislature will consider adopting these and state legislative district plans in a special session beginning July 13.

The N.C. General Assembly redraws legislative and congressional districts every 10 years following the federal census.
