Duo arrested following larceny

On July 10 at approximately 9:23 a.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report indicating that a larceny had just occurred at a residence on N.C. Highway 102 West in Chocowinity. The caller gave a description of the suspects and the vehicle they were operating. Deputies responded to the area and attempted to locate the vehicle.
At approximately 10:28 a.m., deputies located a vehicle traveling on U.S. Highway 17 South that matched the description given by the caller. A traffic stop was performed on the vehicle near the intersection of Highway 17 South and Old New Bern Road. During the stop, the passenger concealed an item in her hand and refused to obey commands to show the item. After a brief struggle, Deputy Michael LoRe arrested the passenger, Tracey Dawn Mayo, age 41, of Nelson Farm Road in Chocowinity for resisting a public officer. A silver-colored pipe was recovered after the arrest. During a search of the vehicle, deputies recovered items that were reported stolen from the home on Highway 102, assorted pills in a pill bottle, and pieces of a white substance believed to be cocaine.
As a result, Mayo was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor larceny. The driver, Barry Brent Toler, age 53, of Donna Avenue in Chocowinity was charged with aid and abet larceny. Mayo was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $10,000 secured bond set by Magistrate D. Sadler. Toler was held on a $2,000 secured bond set by Magistrate Sadler.
