Vivian “Vivi” Toler Christy

Mrs. Vivian “Vivi” Toler Christy, age 49, a resident of Bragaw Lane, Chocowinity, N.C., died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at her home. The family will receive friends at the home. A private celebration of life will be held at the home officiated by the Rev. Joseph “Sonny” Browne.
Mrs. Christy was born on Feb. 4, 1962, in Beaufort County, the daughter of the late Mr. Heber L. Toler and Ms. Patricia “Trish” Jones Toler, who survives. She was a graduate of Chocowinity High School in 1980 and also graduated from East Carolina University with an Associate’s Degree. Vivi retired from the United States Army after serving for 17 and a half years. She was employed with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. On Aug. 21, 2004, she married David J. Christy, who survives. Mrs. Christy was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Vivi will always be remembered for her quick wit and loving personality.
Along with her husband and mother, survivors include her two daughters, Ashly Christy and August Vance, both of the home; three sons, Matt Christy of New Bern, N.C., Mitch Christy of Greensboro, N.C., and Mark Christy of Fort Jackson, S.C., who serves in the United States Army; one brother, Timothy “Tim” Toler of Washington, N.C.; and a sister, Rhonda T. Whitehurst of Washington, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Marion L. Shepherd Cancer Center, 1209 Brown St., Washington, NC 27889.
