GREENVILLE — Three additional East Carolina football games have been added to the Pirates’ broadcast schedule in 2011 according to an announcement by IMG College, the multimedia rights-holder for the ECU Athletics Department.
WITN-TV, the flagship station of the Pirate IMG Sports Network, will carry Conference USA home contests against UAB on Sept. 24 and Tulane on Oct. 29, while also providing live coverage of East Carolina’s league matchup at Memphis on Oct. 15.
A 3:30 p.m. kickoff time has been established for the games against the Blazers and Green Wave at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
In addition, the local NBC affiliate will pick up the Pirates’ intra-division clash against Southern Miss on Nov. 5, a contest that is slated to air regionally on Comcast Sports South (CSS).
With ECU’s local package in place, all 12 Pirate contests are scheduled for live broadcast this season – South Carolina (FSN), Virginia Tech (FSN), UAB (WITN-TV), North Carolina (CBSSN), Houston (CBSSN), Memphis (WITN-TV), Navy (CBSSN), Tulane (WITN-TV), Southern Miss (CSS/WITN-TV), UTEP (TW-EP), UCF (FSN) and Marshall (CBSSN).
Football ticket sales approaching record
GREENVILLE — East Carolina’s football season ticket sales are approaching another record-breaking campaign as 22,750 packages have been purchased. The mark is less than 700 behind last year’s program-best 23,436 tickets.
A limited number of $150 Economy Plan Plus packages remain for seating in sections 214, 215, 219 and 220. This discounted price will only be available until August 19th, or until the allotment is exhausted.
To guarantee tickets to the Pirates’ home opener against Virginia Tech Sept. 10, or the clash with in-state rival North Carolina Oct. 1, Purple or Gold Three-Game Packs will also need to be purchased by the 19th of August. These tickets are for seats in sections 214 and 220 and are currently available for $120, a $20 savings. The Purple package includes admission to the Virginia Tech contest while the Gold option offers a ticket to the North Carolina game. With both packs, fans can choose to see two Conference USA contests.
Tickets to watch the Pirates battle the Hokies and Tar Heels are $60 each while the cost for league tilts against UAB, Tulane, Southern Miss and UCF are $40. For children 12 and under, admission to a C-USA contest is just $25.
This is the fifth consecutive year the ECU Athletics Department has sold 20,000 or more season tickets. East Carolina set new school records during the 2010 season in total attendance (297,987) and average attendance (49,665) to help the Pirates to a fifth-straight bowl appearance – besting the previous marks of 292,191 (set in 2009) and 42,016 (2008).
In addition to topping Conference USA in average attendance for the third-straight season, ECU stood second nationally among all Bowl Championship Series non-automatic qualifiers in 2010 – trailing only BYU (61,381). The Pirates’ 99.33 capacity percentage also ranked 24th of all 120 FBS programs.
