Eugene “Gene” Jackson

Mr. Eugene “Gene” Reid Jackson, age 74, a resident of 505 Maple St., Pantego, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and will be conducted by Father Jim Harold Lupton. Burial will follow in Yeatesville Cemetery. J.W. Billmyer III, Donald Gibbons III, Stuart Ricks, Tom Moore, Jeff Larsen and Steve Poole will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Jackson was born on May 25, 1937, in Beaufort County to the late Roy and Margaret Robbins Jackson. He was a 1957 graduate of Pantego High School and graduated in 1957 from Chowan Junior College with a degree in general business. On Oct. 11, 1985, he married Naomi Cannon, who preceded him in death on July 23, 2003. He was a meat inspector with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture for 15 years and was a member of the Southern Dismal Wildlife Club.

Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer J. Leksen and husband Joel of Spartanburg, S.C., his stepdaughter, Karen Keeney and husband Steve of Franklinton, N.C., his brother, Roy Jackson Jr. of Terra Ceia, and two grandchildren, John Billmyer of Raleigh and Shanna Billmyer of Franklinton, N.C. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles “C.C.” Jackson.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and other times at the home.
