Beaufort County is under a hurricane warning.

The warning includes Pitt, Hyde, Martin, Beaufort and Washington counties.

A hurricane warning means hurricane conditions are expected in the warning area in the next 36 hours, according to the National Weather Service.

Local officials have asked residents to complete their storm preparations today or early tomorrow before the outer rain bands of Hurricane Irene begin arriving over eastern North Carolina.
