Mrs. Dapherine Griffin Boyd Crisp, age 81, a resident of 4471 Cherry Run Road, Washington, N.C., died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at University Health Systems, Beaufort Hospital.

A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at Mother of Mercy Catholic Church officiated by Father Arturo Cabra. Burial will be private.

Mrs. Crisp was born in Beaufort County on March 30, 1930, to the late James Griffin and Thelma Woolard Griffin. On April 21, 1947, she married Grover Lee Boyd Sr., who preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1986. Mrs. Crisp married Henry Elmer Crisp on May 26, 1995, who also preceded her in death on March 7, 2006. Mrs. Crisp was retired from Hamilton Beach with 27 years of service. She was a member of Mother of Mercy Catholic Church where she was active with the Mom’s and Pop’s, the Catholic Women’s Group and for many years made the flower arrangements for the altar. Mrs. Crisp loved flowers and enjoyed cooking and baking.

Mrs. Crisp is survived by her children: Grover Lee Boyd Jr. and wife Phyllis of Washington, N.C., Thomas C. Boyd of Washington, N.C., Pat Duncan and husband Wesley of Flint, Mich., and Cecilia Hedges and husband Art of Bath, N.C., a stepson: Elmer Gene Crisp and wife JoAnn of Louisa, Va., a stepdaughter: Margaret Jane Scott and husband Gerald of Atlantic, N.C., a daughter-in-law: Debbie Sullivan Boyd of Washington, N.C., a brother: James “Pete” Griffin and wife Barbara of Southport, N.C., two sisters: Verlie Singleton and husband Robert of Grimesland, N.C., and Josephine “Jo” Parker and husband Bob of High Point, N.C., her grandchildren: Lee Boyd and wife Sara of North Haven, Conn., Misty Hiner and husband James of New Bern, N.C., David Victor Rios and Stephen Marcus Rios, both of San Francisco, Calif., John Scott Duncan and wife Kim of Stockbridge, Mich., Christi Hairston and husband Malcolm of Winston Salem, N.C., Brian Duncan and wife Jacki of Broken Arrow, Okla., Shannon Padgett and husband Brian of Washington, N.C., Jamie Lynn Boyd of Greenville, N.C. and Kimberly Hedges and husband Ray of Omaha, Neb., great-grandchildren: Jack Hodges Boyd of North Haven, Conn., Roman Wesley James Duncan and Levi Aaron Duncan, both of Broken Arrow, Okla., Jasmine Hairston and Malcolm Hairston III, both of Winston Salem, N.C., Chase Padgett of Washington, N.C., Mikel Hedges of Omaha, Neb., and James Jeremy Blake of Greenville, N.C..

In addition to her husbands and parents, Mrs. Crisp was preceded in death by a son: James Lennon Boyd, a stepson: Henry Ray Crisp, two brothers: Jimmie Griffin and Earl Griffin, a sister: Thelma Jean Griffin and a grandson: Jason A. Hedges.

A rosary service will be held on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, from 6 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington. The family will receive friends following the rosary service from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.
