Ms. Mattie Louise Tetterton

Ms. Mattie Louise Tetterton, age 89, a former resident of 221 Hudnell St., Washington, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 13, 2011, at River Trace Nursing Center.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Washington officiated by the Rev. J. Sonny Browne III. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Wayne Boyd, Ken Harris, Harry Gautier, Allen Taylor Hill Jr., William Gountikas and W.T. Perry will serve as pallbearers.

Mattie Louise Tetterton

Ms. Tetterton was born in Beaufort County on Oct. 19, 1921, daughter of the late William Thaddeus “Jack” Tetterton and Mattie Wilbur Norman Tetterton. She was a 1942 graduate of Washington High School. Ms. Tetterton was a clerk with Tetterton’s Tax Agency. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

Ms. Tetterton is survived by several nieces and nephews and Helen Whitley, her friend and roommate at River Trace. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers: Marvin P. Tetterton, Edward “Garbo” Tetterton and William “Jack” Tetterton and her sisters: Emily Paramore Spainhour, Beulah Gountikas, Annie Nemargurt and Dorothy Van leiroup.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home of her niece, Dorothy Gountikas Challis, 224 Hudnell St., Washington.
