Streak continues

Washington has another Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to display in City Hall — its 14th-consecutive certificate.

Earning one such certificate is worth noting, but earning 14 in a row is remarkable.

Carol Williams, a former chief financial officer for the city, laid the groundwork for the city earning its first CAFR. Since her retirement several years ago, Matt Rauschenbach, the city’s current CFO, has continued the tradition. Williams and Rauschenbach credit the city’s finance staff for doing the lion’s share of the work needed to earn a CAFR each year.

CAFR is the highest form of recognition for excellence in state and local government financial reporting. In order to be awarded a CAFR, a government must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized comprehensive annual financial report.

The city does just that.

Keep the streak continuing.
