Myrtle Gold Moore Lee, a resident of Temecula, Calif., passed in to the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on September 18, 2011, surrounded by her children, Robert and Caroline.
Myrtle was born in the Old Ford Community on November 20, 1919, the first daughter of the late Samuel David Moore and Myrtle Gold Williams Moore. She graduated from Washington High School and Harbinger Business School in Raleigh NC.
Myrtle married Robert E Lee III, a World War 1 veteran, who preceded her in death. Myrtle and Bob moved to Hollywood California in 1941, where she lived until recently, moving to Temecula, California, to be near her daughter. Together, they had two children, Robert E Lee IV of Round Rock, Texas, and Caroline Lee of Temecula, California.
After her children became adults, she married Steven Burns, who preceded her in death. Myrtle retired from the Naval Air Systems Command as the first female traffic manager. She was an active member of Hollywood Christian Church, and served as wedding planner to members and others. She served in various offices and Regent of the Dar, President of UDC and was also a Gold Star Wife.
Following her retirement, Myrtle and her husband Steven traveled all over the world, making new friends wherever they went, and spending time in their Maui, Hawaii, home.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Myrtle was preceded in death by her sister, Susie Kate Moore Riggs; four brothers, Wilbur David Moore, Ray Stearns Moore, Augustus Williams Moore and Samuel Nicholas Moore.
Myrtle leaves to cherish her memory her son, Robert E Lee IV and wife Susanne, her daughter, Caroline L. Lee; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Robin R Moore of Washington; three sisters, Colleen M. Lupton and husband James of Washington, Tillie E Moore of Burbank CA and Muse M James of Raleigh and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held on September 23, 2011, burial followed in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California.
