John Manning Hodges, 69, of 1125 Bobby Roberson Road, Williamston, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at University Health System-Beaufort Hospital following a brief battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Tice Cemetery.
John was born Nov. 2, 1941, to the late Sampson and Evie Manning Hodges. He served in the United States Air Force and retired as an inspector with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. On April 10, 1966, John married Lois Roberson who preceded him in death on December 5, 1980. He married Eunice Jackson on August 4, 1991.
John was a longtime member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was an active member of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class #1 and The Message of Easter until his illness.
In addition to his wife Eunice, John is survived by his son, John M. Hodges, Jr., his wife Katherine and grandson Taylor, all of Garner; his daughter Sarah Hodges of Bear Grass and her boyfriend, Bobby Stalls; stepson Kent Manning and his wife Angela of Jamesville; step-granddaughter Jessica Leggett; stepdaughter Wyndi Phillips, her husband Mark and grandsons Collin and Ian, all of Durham. He is also survived by his aunt, Bessie Beacham and husband Johnny Frank of Williamston.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Piney Grove Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
