Cyclists from eastern North Carolina await the start of the third annual DownEast Century Saturday at Havens Garden. Roughly 45 riders from as far away as Kinston, Ahoskie and Elizabeth City participated in the 100-mile ride through Beaufort and Martin counties, demonstrating that cycling can be enjoyed for a lifetime and is a great way to meet friends, see the sights, get some fresh air and exercise the body. The Century was sponsored by Dr. Kirk Harris of Doctors Vision Center, Inner Banks Outfitters, Coca-Cola Bottling and First Church of Christ. Profits from the DownEast Century were donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Washington.
