Mr. Gennie Otha Brame, age 92, a resident of 542 Old Blounts Creek Road, Chocowinity, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at UHS Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Jason Kirkman. Interment will be private.
Mr. Brame was born on Oct. 12, 1919, to the late George Western Brame and Nettie Elizabeth Moore Brame. Mr. Brame served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the Asiatic-South Pacific Theater as a part of the 81st Infantry Division. On June 21, 1946, he married the former Margie Fleming, who preceded him in death on Dec. 12, 1999. Mr. Brame was retired from National Spinning Company with 35 years of service. He loved to farm and fish. Mr. Brame was a member of the Haw Branch Church of Christ.
Mr. Brame is survived by his daughters: Sherry Holland and husband Darrell of Washington and Dixie Hollowell and husband Benjamin of Chocowinity; two sisters, Madeline Catalano of Virginia Beach, Va. And Nettie Mae Thomas of Chocowinity; a sister-in-law, Hilda Brame; four grandchildren: Lisa Holland Mills and husband David of Raleigh, Benji Hollowell and wife Susan of Chocowinity, Megan Taylor and husband Chris of Washington and Decoda Hollowell of Chocowinity; four great-grandchildren, McKenna Taylor of Washington, Nicholas Mills and Noah Mills both of Raleigh, and Brayden Taylor of Washington and an additional great-grandchild was expected in March. Mr. Brame is also survived by a special caregiver, Gladys “Ree Ree” Wilson.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Brame was preceded in death by a son, Otha Wilson Brame, and by five brothers and two sisters.
The family will receive friends at the home located at 542 Old Blounts Creek Road, Chocowinity.
