Event raises funds for Boys and Girls Club of Beaufort County
The Boys and Girls Club of Beaufort County held its inaugural Pig Cook-Off and Bike Show on Saturday.
“All the pig-cookers were up and cooking at two in the morning,” said Boys and Girls Club board member Mavis Burns.
Burns’ husband was part of a cooking team.
Mouth of the South was awarded the first-place prize of cooking utensils. Team Savory received a glass trophy for its second-place finish.
After the winners were announced, the meat was chopped and given to the Boys and Girls Club to sell as a fundraiser.
The idea for the competition began when a few board members decided they wanted to have a cook-off. Alice Sadler, the club’s CPO, used a megaphone to announce the contest’s top finishers.
Other activities included face-painting, a bake sale and yard sale.
Part of the bake sale included baked goods provided by the Boys and Girls Club. Beaufort County Crime Stoppers provided the rest of the baked goods.
Children who attended received jump ropes and footballs.
The yard sale, featuring clothes, dishes and large, plasma-screen television, was set up at 6 a.m. to be ready for the 11 a.m. beginning of the event.
The bike show was postponed because of inclement weather.
