Southside High School will participate in the statewide College Application Week co-sponsored by College Foundation of North Carolina and the Carolinas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officer Nov. 14-18.

As part of the CFNC-CACRAO college access initiative, Southside will work with its seniors to complete and submit online at least one college application, each using the career and college information and planning site CFNC.org.

The goal of the program is to get more students applying to North Carolina colleges and universities in their senior year. During this event, students may apply to any of North Carolina’s 58 community colleges, 29 independent colleges and three state universities in which they are interested at no cost.

Chynna Bonner, Southside’s coordinator for the event, expects more than 70 seniors to participate,  with the help of Kaye Koplin, school counselor, and Aaron Lewis, computer-lab facilitator.

To kick off the week’s events, faculty, staff and students will participate in the second-annual CAW door-decorating contest. This is an opportunity for each faculty and staff member to showcase his or her college alma mater, educate the students about various schools and share invaluable personal success stories. A panel of judges will judge the doors on creativity, educational factor and personalization.
