Kay Bell Newbern, 76, formerly of Sladesville Community in Hyde County and long time resident of Wake County, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at Duke-Raleigh Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Hyde County on Feb. 9, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Charles T. and Ella Louise Gibbs Bell. She was married to Glenn Newbern who preceded her in death. She spent her working years as a bookkeeper.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the gravesite in the family plot at Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Gary Saffel, pastor of the church, will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church following the service on Saturday.

Surviving are a sister, Judith Bell, of Holly Springs. Mrs. Newbern was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Bell, in 2003.
