On Tuesday, investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office’s Drug Unit, Pitt County Sheriff’s Office’s Drug Unit and agents with Alcohol Law Enforcement executed a search warrant at John Dewan Smallwood’s residence, 607 W. 13th St., Washington.

Investigators and K-9 Elza conducted a search and found approximately 1,073 grams of cocaine, two dosage units of Ecstasy, $23,000 in U.S. currency, digital scales, plastic baggies, a sawed-off, double-barrel shotgun and a .25-caliber pistol.

Smallwood was arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a dwelling to keep a controlled substance, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance (Ecstasy), possession of a weapon of mass destruction and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Smallwood was detained in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $1,000,000 secured bond.
