They make quite a picture.

Twenty-six Washington High School photography students are represented in an exhibit that runs through Dec. 31 at River Walk Gallery and Arts Center, 139 W. Main St., Washington.

The photographs are available for purchase, in print and postcard forms, at the gallery.

The nonprofit artists’ consortium has lowered its commission to benefit the high school’s photography department, said River Walk artist Brenda Haislet.

The exhibit began Nov. 1.

Melissa Manning Moore, an art teacher at the high school, fostered the concept behind this exhibit, Haislet related.

As part of the project, Moore, who also offers photography instruction at WHS, challenged her pupils to identify and capture symbols that looked like letters of the alphabet.

Out on a field trip, the students found inspiration in everything from fence railings to fire escapes — snapping photos that became montages and, inevitably, were combined to produce words.

The participating students are Ashley Adams, Will Allen, David Alvarez, Melissa Baker, Olivia Baker, Amber Beacham, Alyssa Coburn, John Ebison, Brittany Grist, Sam’l Grist, Rebekah Langston, Courtney Leffelman, Nick Lietz, Crystal Martinez, Tatiania McPherson, Riziki Ormonde, Ted Paschall, Sarah Poore, Amber Pope, Adriana Ramirez, Caroline Riffert, Shamiqua Robinson, Liegha Rudd, Harley Wallace, Marie Windley and Brittany Woolard.

River Walk Gallery is open to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
