Mr. Ivan “Neal” Sawyer Sr., 61, a resident 1139 CBH Lodge Road, Washington, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Bill Mobley. Burial will follow in Jackson Cemetery. Andy Jackson, David Jackson, Rodney Jackson, Kenny Parker, William Cahoon, Dallas Linton, Roland Modlin and Steve Modlin will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Sawyer was born on Oct. 29, 1950, to the late Archie Lee Sawyer and Gretchel Rose Watson, who survives. He was a 1970 graduate of Bath High School. Mr. Sawyer owned and operated Sawyer’s Marine Construction. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Sawyer was a member of Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Sawyer is survived by his children, Ivan Neal Sawyer Jr. and wife Jessica Bryson Sawyer of Grimesland, Jennifer Sawyer Ellis and husband Judd A. Ellis of Lexington, Ky., and Anthony Lee Sawyer and fiancée Ashley Lynn Tetterton of Pinetown; sisters, Jeanette Modlin and husband Steve of Pinellas Park, Fla., Marlean Jackson and husband Carlton of Pinetown, Jackie Smith of Morehead City, and Juanita Sawyer of Elizabeth City; a half brother, Archie Lee Sawyer Jr. of Elizabeth City; and grandchildren, Haley Alexis Hodges of Grimesland, Sawyer Grace Ellis of Lexington, Ky., Paige Nicole Sawyer of Grimesland, Cameron Mae Ellis of Lexington, Ky., and Camden Lee Sawyer of Pinetown.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of his mother, Gretchel Watson located at 5165 Long Ridge Road, Pinetown.
