SOUND OFF: 2/7/12

Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.

I’m surprised about some of the blatant ageism in some of the recent Sound Offs. I think they’re reprehensibly myopic because these young people will soon be able to make a choice about where they want to live and your message is pretty clear: “Washington is for old people. Go west, young men and women. Washington is not for you. Oh — good luck finding a job in this economy that somebody else’s generation messed up and when you vote, please don’t touch our Social Security.”

Please explain to me how could the proposed Martin Marietta mine claim they will pay $25 million in Beaufort County property taxes? PotashCorp of Aurora only pays a fraction of that in county property taxes. Reference the WDN article 2/26/2011 which stated PotashCorp paid property taxes $4,739,763.20 in 2010. They were the county’s top property taxpayer. Thank you.

Since we seem to have a problem with the ducks and geese making the new hiking trail a filthy mess, maybe we should transport the cats that are a problem downtown over to the hiking trail. Maybe that would solve both problems.
