Brownie O’Ham Fleming, July 27, 1923 – Feb. 16, 2012

Mrs. Brownie Shelton O’Ham Fleming, age 88, formerly of Chocowinity, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Washington.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Joel Cannon. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Washington.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Mike Hill, Gavin Coley, Mike Coley, Glen Bright, Bobby Bright, and Jim Singleton. The Deacons of Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Fleming was born in Beaufort County on July 27, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Joel Benjamin O’Ham and Margaret Moore O’Ham.   Mrs. Fleming was a homemaker and bookkeeper for her husband. She was a member of Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church for over 75 years.  Mrs. Fleming also served as Sunday school teacher.
Mrs. Fleming was married to Johnnie Daniel Fleming, who preceded her in death in 1990.
Mrs. Fleming is survived by a brother, Kenneth O’Ham of Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Pauline Hunning of Greensboro, and Leadell Hill of Washington; grandson, Johnnie Daniel Fleming III of Chocowinity; two granddaughters, Jessica Vermilyea and husband Bruce of New Orleans, La., Maria Dunn and husband Carl of Washington; three great-granddaughters, Ryan and Kelsie Vermilyea of New Orleans, La., and Kaelynn Dunn of Washington; one great-grandson, Tripp Dunn of Washington; daughter-in-law, Mary Fleming of Chocowinity; and special son-in-law, Jesse Tripp and wife Juanita of Blounts Creek.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Fleming was preceded in death by her son, Johnnie Daniel Fleming Jr., and her daughter, Patricia Fleming Tripp.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday at Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church and other times at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mary Fleming, 164 Old Blounts Creek Road, Chocowinity.
