Ashley Dawn Couch, 25, a resident of N. Boyd Road in Castlewood, Va., was sentenced to 15 days in the Beaufort County Detention Center for misdemeanor assault on a government official, charges stemming from a Jan. 24 incident on Old Blounts Creek Road.
According to a Jan. 27 press release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, sheriff’s office patrol deputies and N.C. State Troopers were called to the scene of an accident and possible domestic assault. Couch was detained, suspected of driving while impaired, and became combative, attempting to damage the inside of a state trooper’s vehicle, and ultimately biting a sheriff’s deputy on his face. A search of the wrecked vehicle yielded cocaine and other drug paraphernalia.
In addition to the assault charge, Couch was charged with driving while impaired, injury to personal property, malicious conduct by a prisoner, possession of schedule II (cocaine), and possession of drug paraphernalia. Couch will face the first two charges in District Court on Feb. 27. The remainder of the charges will be heard in Superior Court, the date to be determined.
