SOUND OFF: 4/6/12

Sound Off highlights anonymous, brief takes on the news offered via telephone by Daily News readers.
In response to the Sound Off item in Wednesday’s paper about not having the murders that happened in Greenville spread all over the front page of the Washington Daily News: Do I need to remind that caller that this is the Washington Daily News? This is not Pitt County’s newspaper. It was in Pitt County’s paper because Pitt County has a paper. Beaufort County things and things that interest our people are in our paper. I’m sorry for the murders in Greenville, but they did happen in Greenville, and the caller needs to be reminded of that.
Can somebody explain to me why we have to go and have mandatory report-card pickups at Northeast Elementary School? The ones who really need to go and talk to the teachers don’t go. They eventually send the report cards home. My child, who is a straight-A student, wants her report card. So, I go 20 miles out of my way and then an additional 30 miles to go to work at Gatewood, with gas at $4 a gallon. Can somebody explain that?
Three cars can be on Water Street, but two can’t be going 35 miles per hour.
I’m really getting tired of people calling in to criticize the paper. If you want to read the Greenville paper, subscribe to it or buy it. Just let those of us who enjoy the Daily News enjoy it without your complaints.
Wednesday afternoon I pulled through Burger King, placed my order and went to pay for it at the window. The cashier said, “The lady in front of you just paid for it and also she said, ‘Happy Easter and God bless you.’” Angels still walk this Earth. Happy Easter to you, and may God bless you, too.
In a recent Daily News, an article about the new restaurant in the old 1884 City Hall building stated “once the building has been renovated to historical specifications.’ Now is the time for city authorities and the Historic Preservation Commission to ensure that the unhistorical DeMille name is demolished to show the original date once again.
Well, hello, is DHHS aware that these are not Boy Scouts in the county jail? The conditions they have to endure are a result of the choices they have made.
Did the caller to Sound Off about the hospital, did he or she mean think about what we went through to get our hospital or think about what we went through to lose our hospital? We lost our hospital.
The person who complained about WDN’s front page on (Sunday) should just stop his or her subscription and quit griping. I like the Wright Flight story. It was about local students getting credit for their schoolwork. After all, that’s what the Washington Daily News is, a local, underline local, paper.
It sure does look like our sports section should be bigger than one page. What a joke.
Most people mellow with age. It’s a shame that two of our county commissioners get more arrogant with their age. Wish something could be done about it.
I would love to know who’s traveling where that the Board of Commissioners voted 6-1 to approve $7,404.58 in travel requests.
