Vernon C. Teeter

Vernon C. Teeter, 82, a resident of 3425 Providence Place, Winterville, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the home officiated by Dr. Jimmy Moore. The family will receive friends following the service.
Mr. Teeter was born on Aug. 29, 1929, in Livingston, N.Y., to the late James S. Teeter and Sylvia Robinson Teeter. He served his country for eight years in the United States Navy. On May 24, 1954, he married the former Ruth Hatcher, who survives. Mr. Teeter worked for 21 years at Beaufort County Community College as a Machine Shop instructor, retiring in 1994. Mr. Teeter was very active in his community serving with the Red Cross, the Beaufort County Relay for Life, Down East Seniors and the Beaufort County Committee of 100. Mr. Teeter was an avid golfer and his daily trips to the local post office were a highlight of his day. Mr. Teeter was a member of Sparta United Methodist Church in New York, but he and Ruth attended First Baptist Church of Washington.
In addition to his wife Ruth, of the home, Mr. Teeter is survived by two sons, John Gregory Teeter of Beaufort and Michael Vernon Teeter of Cummings, Ga.; two brothers, Bob Teeter of Dansville, N.Y. and Kenneth Reid Teeter of Williamston; a sister, Betty Teeter Mann of Williamston, and two granddaughters, Catherine Tate Teeter and Caroline Kimberly Teeter, both of Jacksonville, Fla.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Teeter is preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Anne Teeter; a son, David Alan Teeter and nine brothers and sisters.
