Keys faces possession charge

A Washington man was arrested Monday and charged with possessing more than a half a pound of marijuana, according to a Washington Police Department press release.
Washington police assisted N.C. Probation and Parole officers with the arrest of Santez Rico Keys, 28, at his 221 Pierce St. residence. According to the press release, police seized 288 grams of marijuana, or 0.64 of a pound. Keys was charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana within 1,000 feet of a park, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Lt. William Chrismon, of the Washington Police Department, said Keys was most recently in the news when he was arrested and found with marijuana in the Beaufort County Detention Center. According to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office press release, Keys was arrested Jan. 1 when he presented himself at the Beaufort County Detention Center to serve jail time as part of a prior conviction. A search of Keys revealed bags of marijuana concealed in the waistband of his boxer shorts, said the statement.
Keys was confined under a $5,000 secured bond on the marijuana charges and an additional $5,000 secured bond for violation of his probation.
