Mark your calendars now as Beaufort County celebrates its 300th anniversary.
On Aug. 15, the county is in for a treat as the 82nd Airborne Division All-American Chorus will be performing free at Southside High School near Chocowinity. The group will perform from 7 .m. to 8:30 p.m. Everyone in the community is invited; bring your family and friends and join the fun. Take advantage of this opportunity to support our troops and experience a great performance. If you have never heard of the chorus, check out youtube.com to see and hear this amazing group.
On Sept. 22, Beaufort County will celebrate 300 years of history in style. Join the seven municipalities in Beaufort County in a celebration for all ages. Festival Park in downtown Washington will be the centerpiece of daylong festivities observing the rich history of the area. The celebration will include oral histories, gospel choirs, flag ceremony, re-enactors and more. All this will take place from noon to 4 p.m. At 4 p.m., the Craig Woolard Band will hit the stage with a great beach-music show. At 7 p.m., the North Carolina Symphony will perform on the waterfront, followed by fireworks at 8:30 p.m. It is not often that a county celebrates its tricentennial so make plans to attend now! The 300th Anniversary Committee has been working hard to bring the N.C. Symphony to Beaufort County. We are most appreciative of the support from local sponsors who have made this event happen. For more information about the day you can visit the website www.beaufortcounty300.com or call the Chamber at 252-946-9168.
The events of the day will be free and open to the public. Bring a chair and your family and enjoy the day.
