The Grace Martin Harwell Senior Center Partners have been awarded a chronic disease self management grant through Vidant Beaufort Hospital. This grant will be used to empower 20 people 55 or over who have been diagnosed with a chronic disease to live a healthier, more productive life.
Chronic disease can be a very frustrating part of life. Managing a chronic illness, like managing a family or a business, is a complex undertaking. There are many twists, turns and midcourse corrections. By learning self-management skills, you can ease the problems of living with your condition.
Partnering with the Moore Aquatics and Fitness Center, Cooperative Extension, Beaufort County Health Department and Stanford University, the center will lead 20 seniors through a program packed with wellness activities as well as chronic disease self management education. There will be classes in healthy eating, walking with ease and chronic disease self management. The package will also include a full year membership to the Moore Aquatics and Fitness Center.
If you or someone you know is interested in this program, please contact Carolyne Everett at 252-975-9368.
