RALEIGH (AP) — Three North Carolina Republican candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives took to the podium of the Republican National Convention for brief appearances in the national spotlight.
Richard Hudson, Mark Meadows and David Rouzer were among congressional candidates who spoke Tuesday afternoon at the convention arena in Tampa, Fla. The speeches aired while convention telecasts were relegated to cable TV.
Rouzer, Meadows and Hudson are all challenging Democratic incumbents this November. Their chances at victory may be improved after last year’s redistricting. Democrats currently have a 7-6 advantage in North Carolina’s House delegation.
Earlier Tuesday, the North Carolina delegation heard a speech from former presidential candidate Herman Cain during a breakfast at its hotel in nearby St. Petersburg. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie spoke at a similar breakfast Monday.
