A Crime Stopper’s tip led sheriff’s deputies to convicted sex offender David Allen Jones, 32, of Tarboro Street, Washington, who was wanted for failing to notify the sheriff’s office of an address change, according to a press release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
Allen was arrested on Sept. 13, and charged with failure to report address change by sex offender and a residence violation, residing within 1000 feet of educational property. He was also served with an outstanding warrant from Probation/Parole, said the release.
The sheriff’s office has launched it’s new “Text A Tip” program in which people can text a Crime Stoppers tip instead of calling it in, said Maj. Kenneth Watson, sheriff’s office spokesman. By sending a text to 274637, with “BCSO131” plus your tip in the message body, the texted tip will reach Crime Stoppers through a third party system. The outgoing number of the text is hidden from Crime Stoppers so the tip texter remains anonymous.
“We’ve already seen an increase in Crime Stoppers tips,” Watson said.
