Shirley Harris Brown, 77, a resident of Stokes, died Thursday, October 4, 2012.
A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Brown, a native of Pitt County, resided in the Stokes community all her adult life. For a number of years she was a bookkeeper for United Machine Works, Inc. She loved church and gospel music, and enjoyed cooking for her family. She was an avid Carolina basketball fan and enjoyed baseball. She used her knitting abilities to knit lap blankets for the Leo Jenkins Cancer Center and prayer shawls for Covenant United Methodist Church for the Prayer Ministry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mollie and John Harris; and a son, Charles R. Brown, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Charles Russell Brown, Sr.; daughters, Wanda Dixon and husband, Tal, and Sheryl Nichols and husband, Glenn, all of Stokes; grandchildren, Amy Flora and husband, Mitchell, of Grimesland, Cara Stepps and husband, Ronnie, of Greenville, Mandy Nichols of Greenville, and Candice Nichols, of Stokes, Brent Dixon and wife, Kaitlyn, of Charlotte, and Chad Brown, of Salisbury, MD; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Bethany, and Caleb Flora; sister, Gloria Warren and husband, Clayton, of Robersonville; nephews, Billy Warren and wife, Robin, of Robersonville and Jonathan Warren and wife, Haidyth, of Efland, NC; and great-nieces, Riley, Ramsey and Isabella Warren.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
