Mr. Jacob Ymert “Jake” DeJong, age 91, a resident of Christian School Rd., Pinetown, NC, died Monday, December 17, 2012 at his home. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Terra Ceia Christian Reformed Church officiated by Rev. Dave Weemhoff. Jacob Vander Weit, Phillip Vander Weit, Devon Rhodes, Ryan DeJong, Craig Baas, Eric Baas and Alan Baas will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hillside Funeral

Mr. DeJong was born in The Netherlands on March 6, 1921 son of Jan and Elizabeth DeJong. He was a dairyman and farmer. Mr. DeJong married the former Annie Vink on August 14, 1945, who preceded him in death on July 12, 2009. He was a member of the Terra Ceia Christian Reformed Church having served as deacon and elder. He was a former member of Free Union Ruritan Club. Mr. DeJong also served on the board of Terra Ceia Christian School.
He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth DeJong Dodde and husband Duane of Falmouth, MI, Gerda DeJong Rhodes and husband Ty of Plymouth, NC and Irene DeJong Vander Weit and husband Ken of Belhaven, NC; his daughter-in-law, Pat DeJong; his sisters, Anna VanHouwelingen, Toni Kraaijveld and Nellie DeRuiter all of The Netherlands; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death in 1999 by his son, John Pieter DeJong.
