Mrs. Sarah S. Moore, age 94, a former resident of Washington, died Friday, December 21, 2012 at Whitestone Masonic and Eastern Star Community in Greensboro.
A graveside service will be 1:00 pm Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Oakdale Cemetery officiated by Dr. Jimmy Moore.
Mrs. Moore was born in Bertie County on November 26, 1918 daughter of the late Alva Cecil Smith and the late Helen Lassiter Smith. She was a graduate of Roxabel High School and attended post graduate school in Washington, NC. She married Tom R. Moore, Sr. on June 6, 1943 who preceded her in death on July 20, 1997. Mrs. Moore worked for Bank of Washington and retired from the City of Washington as a bookkeeper in 1980. She was a member of Washington Chapter # 7 Order of Eastern Star for over 60 years where she was past worthy matron. Mrs. Moore was a long-standing member of First Baptist Church of Washington where she was very active until moving to Winston Salem in 1996 due to decline in health.
Survivors include a daughter: Mary Helen Hales and her husband Terry of Winston Salem; a son: Tom R. Moore Jr. of Chocowinity; a sister: Marie Waters of Stanton, VA; four grandchildren: Sarah Ledford, Terry Hales, Jr., Camilla Helton and Robert Moore and thirteen great grandchildren. Mrs. Moore was predeceased by her husband and three sisters: Fay Wescott, Martha McLawhorn and Alva Smith
Mrs. Moore was a very loving and caring person and moved about in a very quiet way helping those in need. She loved to read and if you did not know had a special love for NASCAR-racing.
