CARROLLTON, Va. — William Harold “Bill” Foskey, Sr., 67, passed away on January 11, 2013, at Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was a native of Bath, North Carolina, but was a resident of the Peninsula for many years before moving to Carrollton in 2006.
Bill loved his country and was most proud of his military service as a U.S. Marine. He was a Vietnam combat veteran and Purple Heart recipient and was a long-standing member of the American Legion and the DAV.
Bill retired from Newport News Shipbuilding after nearly 40 years of service. He was an avid sports fan, especially loyal to the Washington Redskins and the UNC Tarheels. He loved working in the yard or in his garden and spending time with family and friends. He was spirited, outspoken, and loyal and had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by everyone whose life he touched in some way.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Harold T. Foskey and Evelyn P. Foskey, and his beloved older sister, Doris Padgette. He leaves to treasure his memory his devoted wife of 37 years, Barbara Gail Tweedy Foskey; daughters, Tracy Hudson and Sandra Pabst; son, William Foskey, Jr; grandchildren, Bryan Foskey, Kira and Ashton Pavlock, Josiah and Gabriel Hudson, and Reghan and Dawson Pabst; brothers, Thomas and Julian Foskey; sister, Ethel Temple; and many other loving relatives and close friends.
The family would like to recognize the special attention he received from the fifth floor nurses at Sentara CarePlex and Dr. Scott Kruger and his staff at Virginia Oncology. Not only did they give him exceptional care, but a reason to laugh every day.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2013, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, at the funeral home. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
