Mrs. Janice Prescott Foster, age 74, a resident of 111 Waterford Place, Washington, NC died Thursday January 31, 2013 at West Georgia Health Systems in LaGrange, GA.
A memorial service was held 2:00 PM Monday, February 4, 2013 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by the Rev. Doug Allen.
Mrs. Foster was born in Carteret County on January 9, 1939. She was the daughter of the late Wilibey Thomas Prescott and Alberta Virginia Whelton Prescott. At six months old, Mrs. Foster was raised by her late grandparents, Norman Alexander Whelton and Lizzie Florence Stowe Whelton.
She was a retired cosmetologist. Mrs. Foster owned and operated Jan’s Beauty Shop in Pamlico Beach and later worked at Creative Hair Design in Washington. After her retirement, she sold jewelry for Sarah Coventry (which later became Lady Remington). Mrs. Foster won two cruises for being top sales person. She was a former member of a
gospel singing group. Mrs.
Foster was a member of the Faith Free Will Baptist
Church. In her spare time, she loved to crochet and playing cards.
Mrs. Foster was married to Hilton Samuel Foster, Sr., who preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Hilton Samuel Foster, Jr. and his wife, Kip Foster, of Aurora and Kip’s mother, Sally Brown; one sister, Lizzie Jeannette Miller of Grand Bay, Alabama; four grandchildren, Brandi Michelle Carter, Jason Underwood Foster, Samuel Justin Foster, Megan Davis; three great-grandchildren, Austin Woolard, Katlian Glison, Jaden Samuel Foster; and two step-grandchildren, Jack Anderson, Shane Anderson and their children.
In addition to her husband, parents, and grandparents, Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by a brother, Judson Martin “J.M.” Prescott.
The family received friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the home, 111 Waterford Place, Washington.
