MINUTES, APRIL, 2013

The Bodacious Babes Chapter of the Red Hat Society met recently at C and K Cafe and Catering in Greenville.  Those attending included members Queen Polly Jones, Joyce Carawan, Colleen Lupton, Shirley Woolard, Sophie Mitchell, Diana Cates, Louise Briley, Rebecca Ward, Joyce Tucker, Betty Ross, Anne Crumpler, Eleanor Trigg, Jean Boykin, Marie Toler, Martha Seighman and guest Mary Alice King.
Queen Jones opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. Chaplain Ward read “The Red Hat Society” – a poem by exalted Queen Mother Sue Ellen Cooper. Rebecca suggested this poem be the blessing for today’s meal.
Seighman gave a brief history of the beginning of the Red Hat Society, which began with the poem “Warning” by Jennifer Joseph, and a red hat purchased at a thrift store. The original hat was inducted into the Smithsonian Institute in April 2011.
Boykin won the 50/50 drawing and the ladies sang “Happy Birthday” to April honorees Woolard, Mitchell and King and to Red Hat Sisters everywhere in honor of the 15th Birthday of the Red Hat Society April 25th.
PIC Boykin led in playing a game and Briley won a prize for her correct response. All enjoyed a Red Hat cake and ice cream and blew noisemakers and bubbles in celebration. Birthday gifts were exchanged and door prizes were distributed to lucky winners.
The meeting was adjourned for fellowship.
