Donald K. Zwak

Donald Kenneth Zwak, age 84, passed away May 6, 2013 with his loving family at his bedside. Donald was born December 2, 1928 to Joseph A. Zwak and Martha Jolman Zwak in Grand Rapids, MI. He graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School and Davenport College with a degree in Business Administration. Don enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17 and served at the end of WWII and during the Korean Conflict; was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant.
He married the love of his life, Cornelia Mae Vreugdenhil on March 24, 1950 at the Terra Ceia Christian Reformed Church. He is survived by his wife “Mae”, son Dale Alan Zwak of Commerce, MI and two granddaughters, Kelly Marie Zwak and Jamie Kathryn Zwak both of Chicago, IL, as well as, a sister Joan Van
Enk of Grand Rapids, MI. Two brothers, Henry W. Zwak and Rodger D. Zwak preceded him in death.
Donald was employed by the Fruehauf Corporation for 38 years serving as executive manager in Saginaw, MI, Greensboro, NC and Atlanta, GA where he retired in 1990. He was an avid vegetable gardener growing many types which he enjoyed sharing with his friends and neighbors.
He was a long time member of the Trinity Methodist Church of Belhaven where he served on many committees and sang in the choir which he dearly loved. A special thank you to the nurses at the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center for their loving care.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven officiated by Pastor Cris Noble. Burial will follow at Yeatesville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Leslie “Butch” Jones, Marshall Cutler, Boyd Respess, Clark Peele, Gary Respess and Rudolph Blake.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, 1209 Brown Street, Washington, NC 27889.
