Their bats came up big and in the end it led to some big smiles as the Williams Tree Service T-Ball team topped Arrmaz 16-9 in the championship game of the Cal Ripken League on Wednesday.
Williams Tree Service placed third in the regular season but caught fire in the postseason as they held off a late rally by Select Bank earlier in the day to advance to the title game.
Once in the championship game, Williams Tree Service’s momentum continued as it slugged its way past regular season champions Arrmaz.
“These guys have worked hard all season long and it’s been a lot of fun,” Williams Tree Service coach Zack Mixon said. “The kids were excited after the first game and I think it carried over into the next game. … Everybody came out and had a good time and I think everybody learned this year. That’s the big thing.”
Williams Tree Service racked up seven runs in the top of the first, five in the second and four in the third to tally 16 runs in three innings.
Trenton Baldtree came up big for Williams Tree Service as he went 2-2 with a triple and four RBIs, while Taveon McIver finished 2-2 with a home run and five RBIs.
Arrmaz, the regular season champions, topped IBX Builders 9-5 to move on to the title game and coach Stanley Dixon said overall the season has been a great one.
“These kids truly enjoyed playing baseball,” Dixon said. “All of our wins this season were tough wins. This league can be competitive but it’s a teaching league and a fun league. These kids enjoyed playing ball and us coaches enjoyed coaching them.”
Arrmaz racked up five runs in the first and four in the second and were led by Bryce Williams who went 2-2 with two RBIs, while Freddy James went 2-2 and scored twice.
