Robert H. McClure

Mr. Robert Horace McClure, age 87, a resident of 333 South 7th Street, Aurora, died Monday, June 3, 2013 at his home.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Christ Vision Church, Hwy 33 East, Blounts Creek, conducted by Pastor Ray Webb. Burial with military honors will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Scott McClure, Jason Bright, Framen Edwards, Joe Hooker, Melvin Mitchell and Herman Michaels.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the home. 

Mr. McClure, known by many as “Mr. Bob”, was born in Clark County, Ohio on September 28, 1925. He was the son of the late Earnest Andrew McClure and Ethel Mae Liest McClure. Mr. McClure was a retired Newspaper Circulation Manager. He worked for the Peoria, Ill Journal Star, the Springfield, Ill Daily News, the Miami, FL News, Fort Pierce, FL News Tribune, Punta Gorda, FL News, the Wilson Daily Times and the Kinston Free Press. Mr. McClure served in the U.S. Marines Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Christ Vision Church in Blounts Creek. 

 In his spare time, Mr. McClure loved to work with children. He was active in Kiwanis, Scouting, Junior Church and Children’s Church. Mr. McClure served as an usher and sang in the church choir. He loved to read and work in his yard.

On September 23, 1946, he married the former Etta Annale Johnson, who survives.

Surviving with his wife are his children, Deborha Lee Tooms and husband, Paul of Vero Beach, FL, Robert Randell McClure and wife, Brenda of McLeansville, N.C., Cynthia Ann Smith and husband, Ray of Blounts Creek, Sandra Marie Bright and husband, Michael of Merritt, N.C.; brother, Roger Allen McClure and wife, Rosa of Maricopa, AZ; sister, Marcella Thrasher of Centerline, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.   

In addition to his parents, Mr. McClure was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Roath and Jean Meahl.
