The Washington 9U All-Stars dug deep for a miraculous four-run rally in the bottom of sixth inning to force extras against Western Carteret but their magic ran out in the bottom of the eighth as they could not catch up to Carteret and fell 11-10 on Tuesday in the ENC Babe Ruth District 6 tournament.
With the loss the 9U All-Stars were eliminated from the tournament and finished with a 2-2 record.
The Washington All-Stars were resilient all day long as they fell behind 7-3 after the first inning and trailed 9-5 going into the sixth inning.
Just three outs away from being eliminated, Washington made the most of them. With one out Michael Cutler belted a double and was plated by Gray West, who hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to 9-6. Keifer Boyd followed up with an RBI hit of his own that trimmed Carteret’s advantage to 9-7.
With two outs and the All-Stars’ tourney lives on the line, Robert Pollack stepped up to the plate and roped a two-run double that allowed Boyd and Hayes Pippin to score and force extra innings.
Pollack would finish the game going 3-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, while West, Boyd, Sam Jones and Tyler Oehril each drove in a run.
After a scoreless seventh, Western Carteret struck for two runs in the top of the eighth to go ahead 11-9.
Washington threatened in the home half of the inning as Pollack delivered a two-out RBI double but Carteret would buckle down and record the final out to advance.
