Washington Community Care Coalition with support from Washington Police and Fire Services, Food Lion West, Nameplates, First South Bank, Washington Housing Authority, DSS and many others, gave away 110 backpacks loaded with school supplies to kindergarten through fourth grade children on a first come-first served basis, as well as providing hot dogs, chips and sodas for all. “We had a line from the front all the way to the back at 9 o’clock this morning,” said WCCC President Thornton Gorham. “The look on the kids’ faces — those kids were so excited.”
