Wessa W. Stokes

Mrs. Wessa W. Stokes, 88, a resident of 8995 N.C. Highway 32 North in Roper, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at Vidant-Chowan Hospital in Edenton.

Mrs. Stokes was born on Jan. 2, 1925, in Roper. She was a retired educator.

Her survivors, to whom her life will always be a beacon of light are three children and their families: Regina Bobby and Ryan Backus; Menina, Anthony and Cierra Taylor; Wesley Dianne, Natasha and Whitney Stokes and a host of nieces, nephews, four sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at Mt. Eprew Missionary Baptist Chruch, Buncombe Street, Roper. A funeral service will be held at noon Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at the church and a committal service will follow at Wilkins Cemetery, Backwoods Road, Roper. Rev. James W. Harris will officiate.

The family will receive friends and other relatives at the home.
