Molasses Creek will have Washington dancing in the streets — make that in the park — Sunday, rain or shine.
The Ocracoke Island-based band is the next installment in the free concert series Harmony on the Harbor.
“The public is invited to bring a picnic lunch, lawn chairs and blankets to make themselves comfortable on the green space by the Pamlico River for this unique entertainment experience,” said Joey Toler, executive director of the Beaufort County Arts Council.
The Festival Park concert starts at 1 p.m. If Washington has a soggy Sunday, the concert will be held in the Washington Civic Center. Signs will be posted in the park should the venue change.
So far, none of the Harmony on the Harbor concerts has been rained out. Toler wanted to be sure the Molasses Creek show went on without a hitch.
“This is kind of a big deal, and there’s a lot of us who are putting money into it,” he said.
The Beaufort County Traditional Music Association, the City of Washington, the Washington Harbor District Alliance, Beaufort County Arts Council and the Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce sponsor Harmony on the Harbor.
The Molasses Creek concert is made possible by additional support from Ed Mann, Sandy Ratcliff, Trent Tetterton and Washington Noon Rotary.
The concert series started in May and will continue for as long as the weather cooperates.
Molasses Creek has had a long-standing relationship with Beaufort County, Toler said.
