The American Legion Post 182 is hosting a Labor Day Weekend Celebration the afternoon and evening of Saturday August 31, 2013 at Legion Beach. Corn Hole, egg toss, sack races, watermelon seed spitting games and activities are planned for kids and adults. Local musicians will be entertaining with live music. Blackwater and other local musicians will join together for “JAMM’N  ON  THE  ALBEMARLE”. Other activities include “homemade cake” auctions and tickets can be purchased for a “50/50 raffle” drawing.

BBQ Chicken Dinner will be served from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM for $8.00 a plate. Plate tickets can be purchased in advance from any American Legion member or at the door the day of the celebration. For those homemade ice cream lovers, Mr. Fred’s Homemade Ice Cream will be available.

“The Labor Day Weekend Celebration is being held to celebrate the new pier and shoreline stabilization completion (the pier and concrete bulkhead were severely damaged during Hurricane Irene in 2011) as well as the last weekend of the summer before school starts,” said Bill Voliva, an organizer of the event.

The celebration helps raise money for the American Legion to continue improvements to the Legion Beach property and support community organizations and activities, such as Tyrrell County Public Library, Boy Scouts and student sponsorships such as Boys State and Student Troopers.
