Carol Ann Owens Bowen born November 26, 1940 passed away September 1, 2013.
She was raised in Plymouth, North Carolina where she married her high school sweetheart Charles Bowen. The two celebrated their 50th anniversary this year.
Carol gave years of her life to active public service. She was an elementary school teacher for Washington County Public Schools. Carol spent much of her life fighting hard for historic preservation in both Washington and Beaufort Counties. She was a member of the Washington County Daughter’s of the American Revolution where she also served as Regent. She was an avid traveler and lover of the theatre. Over a hot cup of tea you would always catch Carol conversing or debating about the state of the world, politics, the book she was reading and the latest cause she saw fit to support.
Carol leaves behind her husband and her son Russ who lives in Seattle, WA. She also leaves behind her son Matt who lives in Winston Salem and his wife Sandy and two children Sawyer and Henry. She is also survived by her sister Sue Owens Klapper. Carol was pre-deceased by her father and mother Russell and Minnie Rae Owens. The family will celebrate her life at a private graveside memorial. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Washington Area Historic Foundation or the Washington County Historical Society or the charity of your choice.
